If your are looking to become educated as a Phlebotomist you must be of the age of eighteen and must of received a highscool education or completed your GED. The phlebotomy course requires a minimum of 80 hours and will also require the student to work under another phlebotomist during clinical hours. The clinical hours are of the utmost importance because this is where a Phlebotomist really learns to use his or her tools. Drawing blood is not as easy as it looks and is definitely a skill that needs mastering.
When trying to find an institution for education consider first, local community colleges for your phlebotomist education. They may be a little harder, and may require a little bit more of you, however often times they are more regulated, and tend to offer a more in depth education. Not to mention they are quite a bit less expensive. If you do decide to go to a community college be sure that you inquire about financial aid, and the programs success rate when it comes to the Phlebotomist certification exam. Private schools can also be a good choice. Often times these schools will be less intense, they may provide accelerated courses, and possibly even provide online classes. However they could be more costly.
